Our shop, S. N. Engraver, is number 12 in the Ram Nagar Market over in Pahar Ganj. If you know Pahar Ganj at all, you know it’s always crowded and full of energy. We do engraving work, so we have machines that make a lot of buzzing and whining noises throughout the day. The shop is small and sometimes it feels a bit tight when more than two people are standing inside. We have samples of our work on the walls, though they’ve been there so long that some of them are a bit faded or dusty. It’s a family trade that has been passed down through a couple of generations. We don't spend any money on advertising or fancy websites. People just see our sign in the market and walk in when they need a nameplate or something etched for a gift. The market is a noisy place, with sellers shouting and bikes weaving through the crowds constantly. We’re used to it by now and it doesn't bother us. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit, and we just have to wait it out and have a chat with the shopkeeper next door. We aren't a big factory; we just do things one piece at a time with our own hands. My fingers are usually stained with ink or bits of metal shavings. We try to get things done by the time we promised, but sometimes it takes a day longer than expected.
