The smell of sawdust is the first thing you notice when you walk into Wood Age at E-38 in Lajpat Nagar-3. We’ve been working with wood in this spot for a long time. It’s a busy neighborhood, so there is always noise from the street coming inside. We have piles of timber stacked against the walls and half-finished chairs sitting in the corners. Making furniture is a slow process and there are no shortcuts if you want it to stay together. We use a lot of hand tools alongside the bigger saws. Our clothes are always covered in fine wood dust by the time we go home. Lajpat Nagar-3 is a good place to be, even if parking is a total nightmare for everyone. We don't have a glossy catalogue or a big marketing plan. Most people just hear about us from their neighbors or walk past and see us working. We spend a lot of time sanding things down until they feel right. It’s hard on the back and the hands, but it’s what we do. Sometimes we run out of a specific varnish and have to wait for the delivery guy to show up. We just keep working on whatever else is on the bench. It’s a simple life in the shop, surrounded by wood and tools. We just try to finish each piece of furniture as well as we can.
