Kashmir General Store

The shop opens around nine in the morning if the traffic isn't too bad. We are located at 60, Bhagat Singh Mkt. in the Gol Market area of Delhi. It is an old part of the city and you can see it in the walls and the way the streets are laid out. Kashmir General Store is what the sign says above the door, though the paint is peeling a bit now. Most days I spend my time just rearranging the jars of sweets and making sure the packets of chips are visible to people walking by. It gets really hot in Delhi 110001 during the summer months, so the ceiling fan stays on all day long, even if it makes a clicking sound that never quite goes away. We have all the usual things you'd expect to find in a neighborhood store like this. There are soaps, different kinds of tea, matches, and those small things people forget to buy at the big supermarkets. I know most of the people who live around here because they come in for their daily supplies. We talk about the weather or how the prices of things keep going up. It is not a very big shop, just enough space for me and maybe two or three customers at a time before it starts feeling crowded. I try to keep things organized but sometimes boxes just pile up in the corner. That's just how it is here.
