Indian Society Of Hospital Waste Management (Ishwm)

The Indian Society Of Hospital Waste Management, or Ishwm as we call it, is based out of a D.D.A. LIG flat in Dwarka. It’s a bit unusual for an office, being at 498 in Pocket 3,C, Sector 16 B, but it works for us. It’s quiet in this part of Dwarka, which is nice for getting work done. We focus on the stuff hospitals throw away—which is a lot more complicated than regular trash. There’s a lot of rules about needles and chemicals that we have to keep track of. It’s mostly paperwork and organizing meetings for people who care about this kind of thing. We aren't a big hospital ourselves, just a group that looks at the best ways to handle the waste. The flat is small, filled with reports and old journals. Sometimes we have visitors over to discuss new guidelines, and we have to squeeze everyone into the living room area. It’s a very grassroots feeling. We don’t have a fancy lobby or a receptionist. Usually, whoever is closest to the door just opens it. Living and working in a D.D.A. flat means you know your neighbors and you hear the kids playing outside in the evenings. It’s a very normal, human environment. We just do our part to make sure hospital waste doesn't end up where it shouldn't. It’s slow work sometimes, but we keep at it every day. It's just a few of us here trying to stay organized and helpful.
