About Halal Chicken – Food & Beverages in New Delhi
You can find me over at the Palika Awas fish market in Sarojini Nagar, at shop number six. It’s a loud place, especially in the mornings when the trucks arrive. There is always water on the ground and people shouting to get things moved. I spend my hours prepping the chicken and making sure everything is ready for the customers. It’s a lot of heavy lifting, moving crates from the back to the front. My apron usually gets pretty messy by noon, no matter how careful I am. Sarojini Nagar is a place that never really stays still. There are always people walking through the market looking for a good price. I try to keep my head down and focus on the knife work. It’s a skill you learn over time, how to be quick without making mistakes. The smell of the market is something you just stop noticing after a week of working here. I talk to the other shopkeepers nearby. We all help each other out if someone runs out of change or needs a hand with a heavy load. It’s a tough way to make a living, standing on your feet all day, but it’s honest. I leave when the sun starts going down and the market gets a bit quieter. Tomorrow, it all starts again at the same time.
