Our space is located in a residential-looking building that we converted for classes. It has that lived-in feel with slightly mismatched curtains and a narrow staircase that everyone complains about. We have a few rooms where different batches of students sit. The noise from the market nearby sometimes drifts in through the windows. We spend a lot of time grading papers and writing out lesson plans on the small desk in the front. It is not a corporate institution; it feels more like a home where people come to study. We keep a water cooler in the corner which is the most popular spot during the breaks. The walls have some charts about science and math pinned up with tape that is starting to peel. We don't have a big marketing budget or a fancy reception area. It is just me and a couple of other teachers trying to make sure the students understand their lessons. Most of the kids live within walking distance, so they just walk over after their regular school ends. It’s a long day for us, usually starting in the afternoon and going until late evening. We just keep things moving along day by day, dealing with the heat and the usual daily distractions. It is just a small local teaching spot in the city.
