Gopal Store

We’ve been here at shop number 1714 on Gurudwara Road for a long time now. Most people around Kotla Mubarakpur know where we are, especially since we’re so close to South Extension Part 1. It gets pretty busy on this street during the day, with cars and rickshaws constantly moving past the front door. The morning usually starts with us pulling up the heavy shutters and getting the stock organized before the first few neighbors drop in for their things. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze inside sometimes when new crates arrive, but we manage to make it work. You’ll see the gurudwara close by, and that area always has people walking around or stopping for a chat. We just handle the daily stuff people need for their homes. Some days are quieter than others, especially when it’s really hot outside and nobody wants to be out on the road, but the evenings always pick up. I’ve lived around this part of Delhi long enough to see the buildings change, though the shop stays mostly the same as it ever was. We don’t have fancy displays or anything like that. It’s just shelves filled with what’s necessary for the kitchen. Sometimes the delivery trucks take forever to find us in the narrow lanes, but that’s just how it is here. Most of the folks coming in are just people from the nearby blocks who we see every week. We try to keep things simple and just get the work done.
