Umera Impex

Our place is No. 9/6419 down Mukherjee Gali in Gandhi Nagar. It’s a tight spot, as anyone who knows the area can guess. Umera Impex has been here for a while. Gandhi Nagar is always crowded, so getting things in and out can be a real headache sometimes. We deal with imports and exports. It’s mostly clothing and textiles since that's what this area is known for. The office is just a room with some shelves and a couple of old chairs. We aren't here to impress anyone with a fancy decor. We are here to work. Most days are spent negotiating prices or checking the quality of what comes in. It gets loud outside with all the rickshaws and people moving about. We’ve gotten used to it. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit and talk until it comes back. It’s a real human way to run a business. We don’t have a website that’s updated every day. We just talk to people on the phone or face-to-face. Mukherjee Gali is where we started and where we still are. It’s a lot of manual work. We check every bundle ourselves. It’s not some automated system. We care about the details because if something is wrong, it’s our name on it. It’s a simple life but it keeps us on our toes. We just try to get through the day's tasks. There is always something that needs fixing or a person to call back. We just do it.
