Aslam Khan Fish Shop

The shop sits right near the Sewa Nagar Railway Crossing. We spend most of our mornings here waiting for the fresh catch to come in. It gets pretty loud with the trains passing by every few minutes, but you get used to the noise after a few years. Aslam started this place a long time ago. We mostly deal with whatever fish is in season. The ice blocks melt fast in the summer heat, so we have to keep moving quickly to keep things cold. People from the neighborhood stop by on their way home from work. It's not a fancy place, just some counters and the smell of the sea. Sometimes the crossing gate stays down for a while and the traffic piles up right in front of our door. We just sit on the stools and talk to the regulars while we clean the fish. The floor stays wet all day. It's hard work, especially in the winters when the water is freezing, but it's what we do. We don't have a big sign or anything, just the name Aslam Khan Fish Shop. Most folks know where to find us by now. We close up once the stock is gone for the day. It's a simple life here by the tracks. We don't really do anything else besides this. The scales get everywhere, on our clothes and boots, but that's just part of the job. It keeps us busy and pays the bills for the family.
