Ajai Paints

Ajai Paints is located at 1/377, right on the Trunk Road in Nellore. It’s a good spot because everyone passes by on their way into town. We’ve been here for years, and the walls inside are covered in different smudges and marks from over the time we’ve been open. It’s a simple paint shop. We have cans stacked up to the ceiling in some places. Sometimes it’s hard to find exactly what a customer wants right away, so we have to move a few things around. We get a lot of dust from the road, so we are constantly wiping down the counters. Most of our customers are local painters or people fixing up their own houses. They come in with a scrap of paper or a piece of old wood and ask us to match it. We spend a lot of time mixing colors and talking about what works. It’s not a high-tech operation. We have an old machine for mixing, and it makes a lot of noise. The back room is where we keep the bulk stuff, and it’s always a bit dark in there. We usually have the radio on to keep us company. There are just a couple of us working here. We don’t wear uniforms or anything like that. We just wear clothes that we don't mind getting a bit of paint on. It’s a steady job and we like seeing the familiar faces from Nellore come through the door every day.
