Nayagarh Gania Farmer Producer Company Limited is based over in Jaganathprasadadakata, Gania. You can find us at Narayan Parida’s place, which is where we do most of our organizing. We are a collection of farmers from the local area who realized that we could get things done better if we worked as a team. It is a very local operation, rooted in the dirt and the seasons of Nayagarh. We do not spend much time in the office; we would much rather be out seeing how the fields are looking. We grow the things that people in this region have always grown. It is a lot of physical labor, and we are often tired by the end of the day. There is always some problem to solve, whether it is a broken pump or a delivery truck that is running late. We do not have a corporate feel at all. It is more like a group of friends who happen to be running a business together. We keep our records in simple books and try to stay on top of things as best we can. If you walk by, you’ll probably see us loading bags or just talking about the next planting cycle. We do not make big promises, we just do our best with what the land gives us. It is a tough way to live sometimes, but it is what we know. We are just glad to have each other to lean on.
