S. M. Garments

You can find S. M. Garments on the ground floor of the Ekta Building. We are located right behind the Hanuman Temple in Sector 26. It’s near the Kopari petrol pump in Kopari Village, Vashi. Being near the temple means we hear the bells and prayers every morning and evening, which is actually quite nice while we are working. The shop is filled with rolls of fabric and half-finished clothes. There are threads all over the floor, no matter how much we sweep up. We have a few sewing machines going at once, so the sound of the needles is the main thing you hear all day. It’s a busy little corner of Vashi. We started out small and we’ve stayed that way, mostly working with local people and small orders. It gets pretty hot in here during the summer, so we keep the fans on high, but that makes the lighter fabrics fly around the room. We spend a lot of time measuring and cutting, and sometimes we have to redo a whole batch because the dye wasn't quite right. It’s honest work, though. We like being part of the Kopari community. People drop in just to chat or ask for a quick fix on a sleeve. We don't have a big fancy showroom, just our work tables and the machines that have been with us for years. We stay open late when there is a big order to finish.
