Odhavram Masala

We are over at Plot K/28 in the APMC Market-I, specifically Phase-II where the masala market is. It is a busy place in Vashi. Every morning starts early here. You can hear the trucks pulling in and the guys shouting as they unload the heavy bags of spices. It gets quite dusty and the air smells like turmeric and chili all day long. Sometimes it makes you sneeze if you aren't used to it. We spend most of our time just organizing the stock and making sure things are where they need to be. Being near Dana Bazar means there is always a lot of traffic and people walking around looking for deals. It is not a very quiet job, but it is what we do. The office part is small and cramped with papers and samples everywhere. We don’t have fancy furniture or anything like that. It is just a practical space for us to work. Some days are longer than others, especially when a big shipment comes in and we have to stay late to get it all sorted. The walls are a bit stained from the spice dust, but that’s just how it goes in this line of work. We’ve been in this spot for a while now and we know the neighbors well. It is a tough environment with all the noise and the heat, but we just get on with it every day without much fuss.
