If you head down to the Morwadi Vijay Nagar Stop on the main road in Cidco, you’ll find Warsi Furnitures. You can’t really miss it because we usually have some chairs or a sofa frame sitting out front on the sidewalk. Inside, the place is full of wood shavings and the smell of varnish. We build beds, cupboards, and tables right here in the back. It’s a lot of manual labor, sawing wood and hammering nails all day. We have a few guys who are really good with their hands and they’ve been with us for years. People come by and tell us what they need for their homes, and we see what we can do. Sometimes they bring a picture from a magazine, and we try to make something similar but within their budget. The showroom part of the shop is a bit cramped because we try to fit as many finished pieces as possible. It gets dusty because of the road traffic and the woodworking, so we’re always wiping things down. We don't have a fancy catalog or anything like that. We just talk to the customers and show them the wood we’re using. It’s a busy part of Cidco, so there’s always noise from the buses and cars outside. We just keep working through it, making sure the joints are tight and the finish looks okay enough for someone to put in their house. We’ve been here a long time and know the neighborhood.
