Rupali Kirana is located in the Bhadrakali area of Nashik, inside the Pushpai Building at Chawata. It’s a very old part of the city. Being near the Devi Mandir means we get a lot of locals who have lived here for generations. The shop at number one is where we keep all our grains and kitchen supplies. The streets around here are quite narrow, so getting our deliveries in can be a bit of a headache sometimes. We have to carry sacks from the main road. The shop has a high ceiling which is nice, but it makes it hard to reach the top shelves without a ladder. We sell things in small quantities mostly, whatever people need for their dinner that night. It’s a very traditional kind of kirana store. We don't have fancy barcodes or scanners. We just weigh things on the scale and write it down. The building is older, so the walls have a bit of character to them. My mother helps me with the accounts in the evening. We know the lady from the house next door and the man who runs the tea stall down the street. It’s a tight community. We just provide the basics and try to stay open as much as we can.
