Girija General Store

Our store is tucked into Shop No 2 of the Vaibhavlaxmi Apartments on Datt Mandir Road. We are right by Trimurti Chowk in Nashik, and the Hanuman Mandir is very close by, so we get a lot of people passing through after they visit the temple. The shop is filled with all sorts of general items, from small snacks to toiletries and kitchen staples. It’s not a very big space, so things are stacked pretty close together. We spend our mornings checking the stock and making sure the milk packets are cold. There’s a lot of traffic noise from the chowk, but we’ve grown used to it over the years. We usually sit on small stools behind the counter and wait for the regulars to come in for their daily needs. Sometimes we have to climb a ladder to reach things stored high up near the ceiling. It’s a lot of simple tasks like counting change and putting items into bags for the customers. We don't have any fancy displays or anything like that. The floors are stone and we have to wash them every day because of the footprints from the street. It’s just a basic neighborhood shop where we try to keep the most common items available for the families living in the apartments nearby. We stay open until late evening, just making sure we’ve helped everyone who stopped by before we finally lock up for the night.
