We are over in Palsi, which is in the Nandod taluka of the Narmada district. Jay Narmada Khedut Krushi Vikas Farmer Producer Company Limited is located at Damaniabhai Bijiyabhai Vasava’s place. It’s a quiet area, and the lifestyle is very much tied to the land. Being in Narmada means we are surrounded by a lot of natural beauty, but the farming work is still tough. We are a khedut (farmer) group. Most of us have been farming for as long as we can remember. We don't have a shiny office with computers for everyone. Most of our records are kept in files at Damaniabhai’s house. People from the village come by to talk about what seeds they need or how the monsoon is looking. We try to help each other out with equipment and selling the produce. Nandod has a lot of small farms, so coming together as a company was the only way to get better prices. We don't have any polished mission statements. We just want to see our families have a better future on this land. Sometimes the paperwork for the government is a bit much, but we help each other through it. It’s a slow life in Palsi compared to the big cities, but there is plenty of work to do. We just keep our heads down and focus on the next crop cycle. That is the way we live.
