Salem Polymers

Our factory is situated near the TCMS in Mallasamudram, out in the Tiruchengode area. We are right by Mahendra Engineering College, so we see a lot of students walking around or waiting for the bus. It’s a fairly quiet area compared to the main city, but the factory itself is always humming. We deal with polymers, so there’s a specific smell to the place that you get used to after about five minutes. The floor is usually covered in bags of raw material and finished products ready for shipping. We don’t have a fancy showroom because our customers are mostly other businesses who just want to see the product specs. The office is just a corner of the warehouse with a couple of chairs and a fan that squeaks a little. We spend most of the day making sure the mixtures are right and the machines don't overheat. Sometimes the power goes out, and we all just sit outside and wait for it to come back on. It gives us a chance to talk to the neighbors or the college staff. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there; we just want to make sure the stuff we produce is what people asked for. It’s practical work, and we’ve been doing it this way for quite a while now without much fuss or bother. We just focus on the orders that come in.
