Ultratech Cement Limited

Our base is in Village Post Vayo, out in the Teshil Abadasa area of Kutch Bhuj. It’s a bit further out than some of the city offices, but that’s where the work is. We operate from a simple building that fits in with the local surroundings. The landscape here is quite open and can get very dusty when the wind picks up. We spend our days managing cement distribution for the various projects going on in this part of Kutch. It’s a lot of coordination with transport and making sure the supplies reach the more remote sites. The office is a quiet place for the most part, except when the trucks are loading up nearby. We have a couple of old chairs and a large table where we spread out the maps and delivery schedules. Water is always kept in a big pot in the corner because it gets very dry here. We don't have much in the way of technology, just the basics to keep the records straight. Most of the people we work with are locals who have been around for years. We know the roads well, even the ones that aren't paved. It’s a rugged kind of life but we’re used to it. We just focus on getting the cement to where it needs to be without any delays. It’s practical work in a practical place. Some days the heat is a bit much, but we just keep the fans running and stay focused.
