We have been out here in Naliya for a good while now. The dust is just part of the job when you are dealing with cement every day. It is a busy spot, mostly trucks coming and going at all hours. We keep things moving as best we can. Sometimes the weather makes it tough, especially when it gets real dry out here. My desk is usually covered in a thin layer of grey stuff by noon, no matter how much I wipe it down. We do not have fancy offices or anything like that. It is just the yard and the equipment. People stop by when they need a load for a project, and we get them sorted out. Most of us have been working together for years, so we know the routine well. It is loud, and the machinery needs a lot of grease and looking after. We spend a lot of time just making sure everything stays running. If something breaks, we fix it ourselves right there on the floor. It isn’t the cleanest work, but it gets done. Naliya is a quiet enough place otherwise, though the wind picks up a lot. We just focus on the day’s orders and hope the trucks show up on time. There is always someone checking the silos or moving bags around. That is just how it goes here at the plant. We do not say much, we just stay busy with the grit and the heavy lifting until it is time to go home.
