Gurulakshmi Cotton Ginning Mills

Our mill sits right on Guntur Road in Rudraram Village. If you drive past Survy No 461/E, you’ll see the big gate and probably some cotton bits floating in the air. It’s been here for a good while now. We spend most of our mornings just getting the machinery warmed up. It gets pretty loud once everything is running, so we usually have to shout to hear each other. The cotton comes in on big trucks from the surrounding farms and we get to work separating things out. There’s a lot of dust that settles on everything, the desks, the windows, even the tea cups if you aren’t careful. We’ve got a small crew of guys from the village who know how to fix the machines when they get jammed up. It’s not fancy work, but it keeps us busy during the season. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon and we all just sit on the stone bench outside until it kicks back on. You can see the traffic moving towards Guntur from there. The shed is big and stores all the bales until they’re ready to move out. We don’t do much advertising because people around here already know where the mill is. We just try to get the day's work done before the sun goes down and the mosquitoes start coming out from the fields. It's a simple operation, really.
