Zadipatti Mahila Kisan Producer Company Limited

If you ever find yourself in Mohadi, just look for the bus stop. We are right there at Plot No. 01, which is actually Moreshwar Sonkusare’s place. It’s not a big corporate building or anything like that. It’s just where we gather. Zadipatti Mahila Kisan is a group of local women who realized that farming together is better than doing it all alone. We spend most of our days out in the fields, so the office is often empty until the evening. We don’t have much in the way of fancy furniture. There’s a few chairs and a table where we keep all the registers. The walls have some old calendars on them. We talk about the rain a lot because that’s what matters most to us. Some years the monsoon is good, and some years it’s a real worry. We grow things like cotton and maybe some tur dal. It’s hard work, and our hands are usually dusty. We don’t really have a big plan other than trying to get a fair price for what we grow. People in the village know us as the women’s group. We started with just a few of us and then more joined because they saw it was helpful. We don’t use big words or have meetings with PowerPoints. We just sit down, drink some tea, and figure out who needs seeds or who is taking their load to the market next week.
