Tirupati General Stores

If you walk down the street in Nagpur 440008, you’ll find Tirupati General Stores tucked between a couple of other houses. We aren’t hard to spot because there are usually some crates of soda stacked outside. The shop is a family thing. We take turns sitting at the front. It gets really hot in the afternoons, so we have a big fan that oscillates back and forth. It doesn't do much but it helps. We stock everything from cooking oil to school notebooks. I try to keep the popular brands in stock, but sometimes the suppliers don’t show up on time. When that happens, I just have to explain it to the customers. Most people are understanding. The floor is a bit uneven in the back, and the paint is peeling a little near the windows. We thought about fixing it up, but it’s a lot of work and we’d have to close for a few days, which we can’t really afford to do. It’s more important to stay open for the people who rely on us for their daily needs. We keep a jar of loose candy near the register for the change. It’s just a small, local business. We don't have any big plans to expand or anything like that. We just want to keep doing what we are doing and serve the folks in our part of Nagpur.
