Tejaswini Janral Store

Sakkardara in Nagpur is a very lively place, especially the area near the Gandhi Putla. Our shop is Shop No 22 on the Old Sakkardara Road. It is an old part of the town, so the roads are a bit narrow and cramped. We get a lot of people walking by on their way to the market. I named the place Tejaswini Janral Store after my daughter. It is not a big supermarket, just a place for your daily needs. I have bags of grains stacked up against the back wall. The ceiling fan makes a loud clicking noise, but it keeps us cool in the Nagpur heat. I spend my day weighing out sugar and packing pulses into small plastic bags. It is a lot of manual work and my hands are usually covered in flour dust by midday. I know which neighbors are going through a tough time and who just got married recently. That is how it is in a small community like ours. We do not have any neon signs or bright advertisements. Just a simple board above the door. Sometimes the cows walk right up to the entrance looking for food. I just shoo them away gently. The evenings are the busiest when people are returning from their work. They want their tea, their matches, or maybe some soap. I try to keep everything in stock so nobody leaves empty-handed. It is just a regular shop on a regular road.
