Shriram Kirana

Shriram Kirana is located in the Khamla area of Nagpur, right at the first spot in the building. It is a busy place, especially in the evenings when everyone is coming home from work and realizes they forgot to buy salt or oil. We have stacks of rice bags and different pulses lined up against the wall. The shop smells like spices and raw grain, which is a smell I have grown used to over the years. We do not use any computer systems for our inventory; it is all mostly kept in our heads or written down in a rough notebook when things get low. Khamla is a lively neighborhood, and being here means we see a lot of the same faces every single day. We sell the basic things like soap, toothpaste, and loose tea leaves. Sometimes the delivery trucks block the road for a minute while we unload the heavy sacks of flour, and the neighbors might complain, but we get it done quickly. The floor is made of old stone and we sweep it out three times a day to keep the dust away. It is a humble setup, nothing like those big supermarkets you see in the malls. We just provide what the local families need for their kitchens and try to keep our prices fair for everyone who walks through the door.
