Sachin Kirana Store

Our shop is right on Chitar Oli Road in the Mahal area. If you know Nagpur, you know Badkas Chowk gets quite crowded, and we are just around there at Shop No 2. It’s a traditional kind of spot where we keep all the daily essentials like dal, rice, and oils. The wooden shelves have been there for years and they hold a lot of weight. Every morning begins with opening the shutters and sweeping the front bit of the pavement. The bags of grains usually sit near the entrance because that’s where there is space. It can get a bit tight when three or four people come in at once, especially during the morning rush when everyone wants their sugar or tea leaves for breakfast. We don’t have any of those big fancy shopping carts, just small baskets or people just tell us what they need and we weigh it out. The fans hum all day to keep the heat away, but Nagpur summers are what they are. Sometimes we sit on the small stool behind the counter and chat with the regulars about the local news or the weather. It’s a busy life here in Mahal, with the traffic noise always in the background. We just focus on keeping the jars filled and making sure we don’t run out of the basics people need for their kitchens. Most of the folks around here have been coming to us for years.
