Rushikesh General Store

Our little shop is tucked away in Chandan Nagar here in Nagpur. It isn't a flashy place, just a regular general store where we keep the essentials for the families living on this side of town. Most days start the same way, unlocking the heavy shutters and sweeping the front step before the sun gets too high. Nagpur can get really hot, so the afternoon hours are usually quiet while everyone stays indoors. We stock things like shampoo sachets, packets of chips, washing powder, and basic stationery for the school kids. The shelves are a bit mismatched, some made of metal and some of wood, but they hold everything just fine. We have lived in this area for a long time, so we know most of the people who walk through the door by name. It is a lot of standing around and waiting for the evening rush when people come home from their jobs. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to use the old hand fans while we wait for the lights to flicker back on. It is a simple business with no big corporate rules. We just try to make sure we don't run out of the things people ask for most. The store feels like a second home because we spend more time here than anywhere else. It is just a practical, local spot for the neighborhood. I spend my time checking the dates on the milk and rearranging the biscuit boxes.
