Nikhil Furnitures has been sitting here at No-146 in New Ramdaspeth for a good while. We are right near Lendra Park, which is nice because we get a bit of a breeze and some green views when we step outside the shop. The smell of wood and polish is pretty much stuck in our clothes at this point. We make all sorts of things, from simple chairs to bigger cupboards that take a lot of lifting to move around. Our workshop isn't the quietest place, what with the sawing and hammering going on most of the afternoon. People from the neighborhood often drop in when they are walking through Ramdaspeth to see what we’re working on or to ask if we can fix a wobbly table leg. We don't have a fancy catalog with glossy pictures. Usually, we just show people the wood we have and talk about what would fit in their house. Sometimes deliveries take longer than we want because the streets around here get cramped with parked cars. It’s a lot of physical work, sanding down surfaces until they’re smooth and making sure the joints are tight. We don't use many machines for the fine parts, so there’s a lot of hand work involved. It’s just how we do things here, keeping it local and making sure the furniture is sturdy enough to last. We've been at this a long time and the shop feels like a second home to all of us.
