Gajanan General Stores

I usually get to Shankar Nagar Square early in the morning before the sun really starts hitting the front of the shop. Gajanan General Stores has been sitting here on this corner for a good while now. Nagpur gets so hot in the summer that I have to keep the cooler running all day or the chocolates start getting soft. My shelf for the soaps and washing powders is right by the door so people can just grab what they need and go. The floor gets a lot of dust from the square because of all the traffic passing through Nagpur City. I spend a lot of time just moving boxes of biscuits around or checking if we have enough loose sugar left in the big bags. Sometimes the delivery truck comes late and I have to wait around past closing time. Most of the people who come in live right here in the 440002 area, so I know a lot of them by their faces if not their names. There is an old wooden counter where I keep my notebook for the daily accounts. It has a few scratches on it from years of coins and bags being dragged across. My nephew helps out sometimes when school is out, but mostly it is just me here. We keep the basic things like salt, oils, and some plastic buckets hanging from the ceiling to save on floor space. It is a simple place and it gets the job done.
