Dhanraj Kirana

Running this kirana shop in Nagpur means dealing with a lot of heat for most of the year. We are located right on West High Court road which is always filled with vehicles and people heading to the offices. Dhanraj Kirana has been part of this neighborhood for a while now. I usually get here early to check the stock and see what we need to order from the wholesalers. We sell the usual stuff like rice, sugar, tea leaves, and all the small things people forget to buy during their big monthly trips. The shop gets quite dusty because of the road outside, so I spend a lot of time with a duster in my hand. It is a small place and sometimes it feels a bit cramped when three or four people come in at once. We have a small radio that stays on in the background, mostly playing old songs or the news. People come in to buy a single packet of milk or maybe some matches and we end up talking about the weather or the price of onions. It is a slow kind of life but it keeps us busy enough. My brother sits here in the afternoons so I can go home for a quick lunch and a nap. We don't have a fancy computer system, we just write things down in a notebook when someone buys on credit and pays later. It works for us and the neighbors.
