Balara is where we are based, specifically in the Keechakdidwana area. It’s out in Nagaur, where the land is wide and the wind can get pretty strong. We are a farmer producer company, which is just a fancy way of saying we are a collective of local growers. We didn't start this to become some big corporate entity. We just wanted a way to organize ourselves better. Most of us have been farming this land for generations. Our fathers and grandfathers did the same thing. We meet up in Balara to talk about what we are going to plant and how we are going to sell it. It’s a lot of talking and a lot of tea. We handle everything from buying seeds to figuring out the transport. It’s not always easy work. Sometimes the market prices drop and we all have a tough month. But that’s the risk you take when you work with the land. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning. We mostly meet in the fields or at one of our houses. We are just regular people who know a lot about dirt and weather. We are trying to keep our traditional way of life going while making sure we can actually make a living. It’s a balance we are always working on here in Keechakdidwana. Every season brings something new to deal with, and we just face it together as a group. That’s how we survive out here.
