Suman Brick Co.

Out here in Vill- Palagacha, things move at their own pace. We are located near the Tatla post office area, which is where we get our mail and some of our news. The police station over in Chakdah is where the main jurisdiction is, but we mostly stay focused on what is happening right here in our yard. Suman Brick Co. is basically just a group of us working with the earth and the heat. The soil in Palagacha is what we use, and it gets under your fingernails and stays there. On most days, you can hear the sound of the workers and the occasional tractor. We have a lot of stacks of bricks sitting out, waiting for someone to come pick them up or for us to send them out. It is a dusty job, and your clothes are never really clean for long. We don't spend money on big signs or anything. People know where we are because of the tall chimney and the smell of the fire. When the rain comes, we have to cover everything up fast, which is always a bit of a rush. Life in the village is simple but the work is heavy. We just keep making the bricks and watching the trucks head out toward the main roads near Chakdah. It is what we have always done, and it seems to work out okay for everyone involved.
