Rangayana Kalamandira

Rangayana Kalamandira is situated within the Kalamandira Complex on Vinoba Road. If you are familiar with the area, you know it’s a place that usually has some sort of creative energy around it. We spend a lot of our time in and out of the different rooms here. The building itself has a lot of character, with its wide hallways and the smell of old wood and stage curtains. It isn’t always the most organized place, as there are often props or scripts lying around on the benches. Vinoba Road is usually busy with people coming to see shows or just passing through the complex. We don't have a big management team; it's mostly just a few of us who keep the place running and make sure the lights are on when they need to be. During the day, it can be quite peaceful, but it picks up in the evening. We don't have fancy office chairs; we mostly use whatever is available in the hall. Sometimes the air conditioning is a bit loud or a door gets stuck, but we just deal with it. It’s a very practical environment where the focus is more on the work being done than the space itself. People drop by to chat about upcoming projects or just to hang out in the courtyard. It feels like a second home to many of us who have been coming here for years to see the different performances and rehearsals.
