Mahendra Hardware

We’ve been running Mahendra Hardware at 631 Soji Street, just off Ashoka Road, for many years now. It’s an old street and our shop has a lot of history in these walls. We sell all the basic stuff you’d expect—nails, hammers, hinges, and various bits of hardware. The shelves are wooden and they’ve started to sag a bit under the weight of all the metal. We don't have those bright lights you see in the big modern stores. It’s a bit dim in the back, but we know our way around. My father started this place, and I’ve been here since I was a kid. We see the same faces every week, mostly local handymen and people living nearby who need to fix a leaky faucet or a broken door. We don't use barcodes or anything like that; we just know the prices. Sometimes we sit on the stools out front when things are quiet and watch the people go by on Ashoka Road. It’s a steady kind of life. We don't try to sell people things they don't need. If we don't have what you're looking for, we usually tell you who else in the neighborhood might have it. The floor is concrete and has some cracks, and the door creaks when you open it. It’s just a normal hardware shop. We keep it simple and try to stay open as long as there’s light.
