Down on Kalidasa Road in Mysore, you will find Hamsa Florist. We have been at No.235 for a long time. The shop is usually full of different colors and that strong smell of fresh cut stems that hits you as soon as you walk in. Early mornings are our busiest time because that is when the fresh stock arrives. We spend those first few hours trimming leaves, putting things in water, and making sure everything looks decent for the day. Mysore people really like their flowers, especially during the festival seasons or when there is a wedding nearby. It gets pretty crowded in the shop then. We have a few buckets lined up outside on the pavement too. My hands are usually a bit stained from the sap and the dirt, but you get used to that after a week of working here. It is a simple life, really. We talk to people who are happy because they are buying flowers for a party, and sometimes people who are sad. We just listen and wrap up whatever they need in some plain paper or plastic. The traffic on Kalidasa Road can get a bit loud, but inside it is mostly quiet. We don't have a big fancy website or anything like that. We just open up the shutters every morning and wait to see who comes by. It’s just us doing our thing here.
