Down in Mysore, specifically in Hudco Colony, Banimantap, you’ll find Gulf Engieering Consultancy. We’re located at Door No 127 on the ground floor. It’s a residential-feeling area, which we like because it’s not as chaotic as the center of town. Syed Nagieulla Hussaini is usually here overseeing the blueprints and site reports. We have a lot of large tables because you can’t really look at engineering drawings on a small screen and see everything clearly. The walls are covered in maps of the local area and old projects we finished years ago. People from the colony often drop by just to say hello or ask for a bit of advice on their own houses. We don't charge for a five-minute chat. It’s part of being in the neighborhood. We spend a lot of time out at sites, so sometimes the office is empty for a few hours. We just leave a note on the door. Our chairs are a bit old and they creak when you sit down, but they’re comfortable enough for long afternoons. We do a lot of calculations and checking of regulations. It’s steady work. We don't try to be the biggest firm in Karnataka. We just want to do a solid job on the projects we take on. The tea here is always strong and we usually have a box of biscuits to share with whoever visits us.
