We are over at Unit-Iv in the Belavadi Industrial Area. It’s a large space because the kind of electric work we do needs a lot of room for the machinery. Being in an industrial area means there is always a lot of noise, from trucks reversing to the sound of metal being cut or moved around. Our unit is basically a big warehouse with some office space partitioned off at one end. It’s not exactly a quiet office job. We spend our time on the shop floor or checking the electrical units as they come off the line. The air usually smells a bit like oil and hot metal, which is something you just get used to after a while. We don't have any fancy carpets or soft chairs; it’s all concrete and steel around here. The morning shift starts early when it’s still cool outside. By noon, the sun hits the metal roof and it gets quite warm inside. We have a regular group of guys who have been here for years and we just get on with the daily tasks. We don't spend much time talking about anything other than the work in front of us. It’s a busy environment and there is always a forklift moving something somewhere. We focus on getting the units built and tested so they can be shipped out to wherever they are needed next.
