Hari Sabha Lane is one of those spots in Kolkata that feels like it’s been there forever. Our place, Kameshwar Foodgrains Private Limited, is right at 1-FR, 7. It’s not a shiny new glass building. It’s an old-school lane where you have to watch your step. We deal with grains. That means bags of rice, lentils, and whatever else comes in from the trucks. It’s heavy work. Most of the time, we are just checking the quality or organizing the storage area so we can actually find things. The lights inside are a bit dim, and the fans hum all day to keep the air moving. We aren’t some high-tech operation. We use simple tools and a lot of elbow grease. Sometimes the deliveries are late because of the traffic on the main roads, and we just have to wait around drinking tea until they show up. We’ve got a small team and everyone knows their job. We don't spend money on fancy decorations or big signs. The name is on the door and that’s enough. We just focus on the foodgrains and getting them where they need to go. It’s a simple life and a simple business. We’ve been in this part of town for a while now and we know the neighbors. We just keep doing what we do, day in and day out, without making a fuss about it.
