About Afghan Almas – Agriculture & Farming in Mumbai
Talk about the chaos of the APMC market. We've been at D-16 in Market-1 for a while now. It's mostly about the nuts and fruits that come in. We spend most of our mornings just sorting through crates. Vashi is a busy place, especially Phase-2 where we are. People come in early, the trucks arrive, and it’s just non-stop until the afternoon. We don't have a fancy office, just the space in the market to keep things moving. It gets dusty and loud, but that’s how it works here. Sometimes the stock is late or the weather makes things difficult, but we manage. We aren't doing anything groundbreaking, just selling what we have. Most of our regulars know where to find us. If you’re walking past the other stalls, we’re the ones with the sacks piled up near the entrance. It's a simple operation really. Not much to look at. We keep the paperwork in a small drawer and spend the rest of the time on our feet. The air always smells like raisins and almonds in this part of the building. It’s hard work, but we’ve got used to the pace of the market. Some days are slower than others. We just open up the shutters every morning and see how the day goes. No big plans, just trying to get the orders right and keep the place running.
