At Tip Top Seat Maker, we spend most of our time cutting foam and stitching covers. Our shop is number 4 in the Amarkunj Building over in Chembur. It is a small space, but we have squeezed in everything we need to get the work done. You’ll usually see rolls of fabric and leatherette leaning against the walls. There are scraps of thread on the floor because we are always right in the middle of a project. We have been making seats for scooters, bikes, and even some cars for a long time. People bring us their old, torn-up seats and we try to make them comfortable again. It is dusty work, but we don't mind. We don't have a website or any fancy brochures. Most people just see our sign while they are stuck in traffic on the road outside and decide to stop in. We have a couple of old sewing machines that have seen a lot of use but still run fine. Sometimes we have to tell people to come back the next day if we are backed up with orders. We aren't a big factory, just a local shop trying to do a decent job. It’s a bit cramped inside, especially when a big car seat comes in, but we make it work. It's just what we do every day. There's no magic to it, just hands and tools.
