Sujata Kelkar Clinic has been at No. 457 SVP Road in Girgaum for a good while now. Girgaum is a crowded, lively part of the city, and our clinic fits right into that. We are in an old building, the kind you see all over this area with the narrow stairs and the high ceilings. It’s a small space, so we have to be smart about how we use it. We don't have a big waiting hall, just a few benches along the wall. Most of our patients are from the local chawls or the nearby apartments. They’ve been coming to us for years. We know their histories and their families. It’s a very personal way to run a clinic. We don't have fancy lights or a reception desk with a computer. It’s mostly paper files and a lot of talking. The noise from SVP Road is always there—the honking and the people shouting—but once you’re inside, it’s a bit quieter. We handle the daily health stuff, from fevers to general checkups. The staff is just a couple of us who know the area well. We don't try to be anything we aren't. We’re just a local clinic in a busy part of Mumbai. It’s practical, it’s a bit worn around the edges, and it’s always busy. We just open up every morning and see who needs help, then go home.
