Mumbai is always loud, and being near Chinch Bunder means there is never a quiet moment. Our office for Shridev Overseas Private Limited is in Neela Bhawan, which is an older building on Keshavji Naik Road. You have to walk up the stairs and past a few other small businesses to find us. It’s a tight space, filled mostly with desks and old filing cabinets that have seen better days. We spend a lot of time dealing with the paperwork for overseas shipping. Sometimes the noise from the street makes it hard to hear on the phone, but that’s just how it is in this part of Mumbai. The postman comes by around noon every day, and that’s usually when things get the busiest. We don’t have a big reception area or fancy furniture. It’s just us working at our computers and making sure the entries are correct in the ledgers. The fans overhead hum all day long to keep the heat away. Outside, the tea sellers and the delivery carts are always moving. We have been in this spot for a while now, and everyone in the building knows each other. It’s not a fancy corporate setup, but it works for what we do. We mostly just keep our heads down and handle the daily routine of moving goods across the borders. If you come by, you’ll probably find us sorting through some forms or checking the latest shipping schedules on the screen.
