Sameer Iit Powai

This place is in Kurla, specifically at Jai Durga Chawl on Hill No-3. It is a bit of a climb to get up here, especially when it is raining. We have a small room in the Kamani area where we do the coaching. It is mostly for students who are trying to get into the IITs. The room is filled with wooden benches that have seen better days. There are stacks of books and old exam papers piled up in every corner. We have a big white board at the front, but the markers often run dry right when you are explaining something important. The fans hum quite loudly, which sometimes makes it hard to hear, but we are used to it. Since we are in a chawl, you can hear everything happening outside in the street. People shouting, bikes going by, and the general noise of Mumbai. The students don't seem to mind much because they are focused on their work. We spend a lot of time on math and physics problems. It is a simple setup with no air conditioning, just the open windows. We have a small light bulb that flickers sometimes. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know the subjects well. It is a humble place, but we spend many hours here every day working through the syllabus with the kids who come by. It gets really busy before the big exams.
