Rose Leathers

We are situated at No.19 on the ground floor right along 90Ft Road in Dharavi. If you’ve ever walked down this street, you know it’s always moving and there is always something happening. Our shop is right in the middle of it. The first thing you will notice when you walk in is the smell of raw and finished leather. It’s a strong scent that we don't even notice anymore after being here so long. We spend our days cutting hides, stitching up bags, and making belts. The floor is usually covered in leather scraps and thread. It’s a bit of a messy process but that’s how handmade stuff goes. We have some old sewing machines that have been with us for years and they still run better than the new ones. It gets quite loud and crowded in here, especially when we have a big order to finish and the heat is rising off the street outside. We don't have any fancy displays or bright lights. We just put our goods out on the wooden shelves and let people see them for what they are. People come from all over to find specific leather pieces or get something repaired. We don't use any complicated sales pitches. We just show the material and tell them how long it will take to make. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from dawn till dusk every day.
