Ribah Nursing Home

We're on the ground floor of a building in Andheri West, using flats one and two. It’s near the Shalimar Bakery, so we always have the smell of fresh bread drifting in during the mornings. That’s probably the best part about working here. The space is a bit cramped because it was originally designed to be apartments, not a nursing home. We’ve had to be creative with how we move the beds and equipment around. The tiles are a bit chipped in the corners and the lighting is that typical white fluorescent style. It’s busy because Andheri is always moving, but inside we try to keep things as calm as possible for the patients. We don't have a big fancy lobby. You just walk in and someone is usually there at a small table to help you. The staff is mostly local, people who take the bus or the train to get here. We go through a lot of registers and pens every month. Sometimes the neighbors complain if we have too many deliveries at once, so we try to keep the entrance clear. It’s a very grounded, basic place. No one wears fancy suits here; we just wear our scrubs and get on with the day’s tasks. It feels like a real part of the street, not some isolated institution. It’s been this way for a long time now and we're used to it.
