R. K. Overseas

Our place is located in the Evergreen Industrial Estate, right across from Shakti Mills. If you’ve ever been to Mahalakshmi, you know how busy this lane gets. It’s an old industrial area, and we’ve been part of it for a long time. At R. K. Overseas, we don't have a lot of fancy furniture or polished floors. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we are too busy to worry about that right now. We spend most of our hours tracking orders and making sure everything is moving as it should. There is always a truck or a tempo blocking the entrance, so we have to navigate around them every single morning. It’s a bit of a maze inside the estate. We share the space with a lot of other businesses, so there is a constant hum of machinery and people shouting instructions. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, but we have a couple of fans that keep the air moving. We handle a variety of goods, mostly sending things overseas as our name suggests. It’s a lot of coordination. Sometimes the internet goes out for an hour and we just sit there drinking water and waiting. We don't mind the noise much anymore. It’s just the sound of work being done. We’ve been in unit 59 for years and it feels like home now. It is a bit dusty but we don't mind it.
