Popular House is located right in the middle of the M.I.D.C. industrial area in Andheri East. If you’ve ever been to Road No.18, you know how it gets with the trucks and the delivery vans constantly moving in and out of the plots. Our building, Plot No. 119, is where we handle all the switchgear stuff. It’s a big space but it’s mostly filled with components and metal parts. The office part is just a small section in the front where we keep the records. It gets pretty hot in the summer because the building is mostly metal and concrete, but we have some fans that help. We’ve been here at Popular Switchgears for quite a few years. It’s mostly just us looking at technical drawings and making sure the assembly is going okay. We don't have a marketing team or anyone to make us look bigger than we are. It’s just a group of people who know how electrical parts work. Sometimes we stay late when a big shipment comes in because the loading dock is a bit narrow. You learn to work with what you have. The neighborhood is mostly other workshops and factories, so there’s a lot of noise during the day, but it’s home for us. We just keep our heads down and do the work. Every evening we lock up the gates and head out into the traffic on Road 18.
