Maneklal Mansion is an old building, the kind you find a lot of in Matunga East. We are up on the second floor on Dr Ambedkar Road. If you look out the window, you can see Maheshwari Udyan right across the way. It’s a busy spot near Kings Circle, so there is never really a quiet moment. At Paramount Tutorials, we are used to the sound of the buses and the honking from the road. The rooms have high ceilings and those old-style windows that let in a bit of a breeze if you're lucky. We have rows of benches and boards that have seen a lot of use over the years. We spend our days preparing for the groups that come in after school hours. It’s a very local Mumbai setup. People come from the station or walk over from the nearby residential blocks. We don't have a lot of bells and whistles. It’s just us, the students, and the books. The hallways of the mansion sometimes smell like the food from the nearby cafes, which makes everyone hungry in the evening. We keep a simple calendar on the wall to track everything. It’s a lot of coordinating and making sure we have enough markers that haven't dried out. Running a place in Matunga means you get to know the neighbors and the local shopkeepers. It’s a steady life, even if the stairs can be a bit much when you’re tired. We usually close up fairly late and walk towards the park for a bit of fresh air.
