Our spot is on the first floor of Bhoomi Plaza in Dadar West. If you know the area, you know how Masjid Gali gets. It is always crowded and there is a lot of noise from the Jagani Industrial Estate nearby. Getting to Unit 107 involves walking past a lot of other small shops and businesses. We spend the morning checking the machines and seeing what needs to be finished. The air in the workshop gets a bit warm by midday, so we keep the windows open, but that just lets in the sounds of the Bapat cross road. It’s a lot of hands-on work here. We are usually busy packing up items for export or making sure the materials are cut right. The floor is usually covered in some scrap or packing tape. We don’t have a big reception desk or anything like that. People just walk in and we talk over the sound of the fans. It gets a bit cramped when a big shipment comes in, and we have to stack things high. Everyone knows their job and we just get on with it. Lunch is usually something quick brought from home or ordered from the corner stall. It’s not the quietest place to work, especially with the masjid and the industrial estate right there, but we are used to it. The day ends when the last box is taped up and the lights are turned off.
