Mi Maratha is our little place on Productivity Road in Lower Parel. We wanted to serve the kind of food we grew up with, so that’s what we do here every day. It’s a busy part of town with all the offices nearby, so lunchtimes are usually a bit of a madhouse with people rushing to eat. We have a small dining area that fills up fast, and often people have to wait outside on the sidewalk for a seat. We try to move things along quickly so everyone gets a turn. The kitchen is always loud with the sound of pans and shouting orders. It’s not a quiet, relaxed atmosphere, but it’s real and honest. We serve traditional Maratha style dishes, mostly thalis and some fish when we can get it fresh from the market. The spices are ground by hand which takes a lot of time, but you can tell the difference in the flavor. We don't have a big corporate team behind us, just a few cooks and waiters who work hard. Sometimes we run out of certain items by 2 PM, which can be frustrating for latecomers, but we only make so much each day. Productivity Road is a good spot for us and we’ve made a lot of friends among the office workers over the years. It’s just a plain, honest eatery for people who want a real meal without the frills.
